Drawing for partners can be rather fraught, especially if it is between the men and ladies – Tavistock’s Annual Mixed Vets Trevena/Congo Trophy competition is no exception!

It was perfect golfing weather for the 14 pairs that played on a course that was in excellent condition.

Traditionally, the two Vets Captains are not in the draw and are first out followed by the 13 drawn partners.

There was good scoring but vets captains Mike Coles and Liz Hough won the day with an amazing 49pts. Runners-up were Jim McGregor and Joy Tynan with 46pts.

There was very tight scoring in the ladies’ medal and Withington Bowl. In division one Marian Stenhouse was first with a nett 78 on countback from Fiona Lovell. Third was Bridget Luckham nett 79 on countback from Lynn Swift.

Helen Phipps with a nett 77 was first in division two and winner of the Bowl. Second in division two was Margaret Smith with nett 78, third Jackie Sealey nett 79 and fourth Nicola Ormond nett 80.

There was also tight scoring in the men’s monthly medal which attracted 53 entrants.

First in division one was John Hirst with nett 72 on countback from Rob Lovell and Nick Turner.

Fourth was Tony Finnigan with nett 73 on countback from Rob Sleep and Dan Harris.

In division two, first with a nett 72 was Lester Francis. Second Rob Milligan with nett 73, third Len Scott with nett 74 on countback from Richard Smith. Fifth was Keith Marshall nett 75 on countback from Rod Hillman, John Lyydon, and Viv Wilton.

In the Men’s qualifying round of the Daily Foursomes – first with a nett 70 were Jon Behennah and Peter Floyd.

Kerry Baker and Lynn Swift were first in the ladies’ qualifying round with a nett 74.

Both pairs with represent the club and will be entered into the national knockout competition.
