CALLINGTON Honey Fair was yet another event in the calendar which was virtual this year, as ongoing Covid-19 concerns persisted into the autumn.

The event organised by the Callington Lions Club is usually held on one day, the first Wednesday in October. This year though it was extended over the entire week, with fair coordinator Lion Hayley Patton arranging many online events across the week.

Thanks to the generosity of many local firms, there were a good selection of prizes offered for the raffle, run via the Just Giving website. The prizes and prize winners can be seen on the Callington Lions Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CallingtonLionsNews/

One event that proved popular were the Lions’ cream teas. These could be ordered online for delivery to your door; many were booked as a surprise for friends and relatives.

The school painting competition had over 400 entries, many of which can be seen on Callington Lions Facebook page. Money raised will go to Lions’ local charities including the town foodbank, the Cornwall Air Ambulance and for wheelchair provision.

Lion Ken Aspinall, who arranged the school art competition, said the standard of artwork had been high and difficult to judge.

The winning schools were St Mellion (1st), Callington Primary (2nd) and Pensilva (3rd). Each school was presented with a prize cheque.

President Jamie Dowdall said he was looking forward to next year when Callington Lions hope they can be back with the street market and all the community events. The Lions are here to help anyone in the community, visit https://www.callingtonlions.org.uk/getinvolved.html or call 0845 833 7527
