‘Fantastic fireworks’, ‘A brilliant display’, ‘The best we have ever seen’ — these were just a few of the comments made by visitors to the Tavistock Lions’ Club firework display held recently at Tavistock Community Football Club (TCFC) which attracted around 2,000 people.

A spokesman for the Lions said that the club was ‘over the moon’ with the turnout on the night which exceeded all expectations with the nearby Tavistock College car park almost full and the barbecue completely selling out of stock.

Advanced ticket sales went extremely well once the forecast was set fair and overall the evening had resulted in a substantial profit which would be used to support local good causes and charities.

Tavistock Lions said they were indebted to the directors of Fairway Furniture for their generous support, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team and Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue for providing emergency cover on the night and the committee of TCFC for allowing the club to stage the display on their pitches.

This was the first time for many many years that the display was staged at the football club at Crowndale.

The Lions spokesperson said: ‘We were pleased with the decision to move away from the Meadows as the site was much easier to manage from a security and health and safety point of view, there was nearby parking at the college which proved to be very successful in attracting more people and TCFC allowed the use of the toilets and even provided a power feed for the barbecue illuminations.’

They added that the new site was favoured by Two Tigers Fireworks as it allowed for a more in-depth display with the area available, there were no trees thus allowing the spectators a clear view of the fireworks and the firing site was well contained offering the firework team and spectators much greater safety.

Two Tigers reported that this was the most successful firework display held for Tavistock Lions in the 12 years it had been doing it.
