ON the traditional Wednesday of Goose Fair local runner Steve Cox and friends decided they were going to have fun anyway and held a charity day, raising £700.

The event was a light-hearted family-friendly day and evening in the spirit of Goose Fair, which was cancelled for a second year. The night was headlined by Winter Mountain, which is Cornish musician Joe Francis, supported by locals Seth Lakeman, Geoff Lakeman, and Greta Bondesson of Swedish band Baskery who had never played together before the night.

The crowd was primed by local folk duo Suthering, Julu Irvine and Heg Brignall and started with the Wheelhouse Folk Choir.

The day featured archery, skittles, glitter tattoos, crafts and the first annual ‘wolf fleece’ contest inspired by the many wolf fleeces sold and worn at various Goose Fairs over the years. Cllr Ursula Mann donated the trophy and Shaun, from Pens and Moor, donated the inscription service as well as a raffle prize.

Local mum, Josephine Spooner, was delighted that her handmade matching wolf fleeces for her three toddlers brought home the trophy.`

Mr Cox received extensive treatment at Derriford for cancer over the last two years and is raising funds for Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund. His good friend Chris John from local business Stannary Brewing Co. and deputy mayor of Tavistock Ursula Mann helped organise the event, which may become annual.
