The joint owners of an award-winning bed and breakfast business in Tavistock have scooped yet another honour.

Iain and Jack White-Duncan, who run One Drake Road and Apartments, have been awarded the prestigious Green Tourism Gold Award.

The award is the highest accolade a tourism business can win towards its environmental credentials and rewards their efforts, which include creating a wildlife habitat and using pre-loved furniture.

Iain said: “We are absolutely delighted at the wonderful news that One Drake Road has been awarded the Green Tourism Gold Award – the highest level of accreditation awarded by Green Tourism and one of the most respected sustainability awards in the hospitality industry.

“As a small, owner-operated guest house, this recognition means the world to us. Every improvement has been made by the two of us, from restoring antique furniture and reducing waste to saving energy and water, supporting local businesses and creating a haven for wildlife in our courtyard garden.

“We are incredibly proud to be the only accommodation provider in Tavistock and the surrounding area to hold the Green Tourism Gold Award, demonstrating that heritage, luxury and sustainability really can go hand in hand.”

The pair have also recently been awarded gold in the 2025–26 Devon Tourism Awards and were national finalists at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2026.

He added: “A heartfelt thanks goes to our wonderful guests for supporting our journey. We look forward to continuing to improve, one thoughtful step at a time.”

The ‘gold’ green measures include garden water butts, eco-friendly cleaning products, buying food and supplies locally and supporting community projects, reduced energy use though insulation, smart meters and renewable energy supply.

The Green Tourism Awards are described as an international sustainability certification scheme for travel, tourism and hospitality businesses to help embed responsible, sustainable and environmentally friendly practices across businesses and the wider tourism sector.
