WINTER is approaching and Tavistock’s Winter League is now underway with a record number of 100 players entering the first round.

Topping the first division with 46 pts were Tony Finnigan and John Gynne. Close behind with 45pts were Mike Sutcliffe and Mark Taylor.

In the second division first were Alan Doidge and Martin Hoar with 46pts, second Nigel Doidge and Howard Jenkins with 45pts.

Jas Singh and Sam Hurdwell took first place in division three with 45pts and second with 44pts were Lee Bartlett and Nick Coe.

In division four first was Neil Tamblin and Jason Webber with 46pts, second Trevor Smith and John McMorrow 44pts.

Kerry Baker and Nicky Gawman took first place in division one of the Ladies’ League with 45pts, second Fiona Lovell and Fran Horton 41pts.

In division two first were Wendy George and Margaret Smith on 39pts, second Tracy Sutcliffe and Mel Jasinskyj with 39pts. The next round will be Greensomes on Saturday, November 27.

There were 27 entries for the Par and Kelly Bowl. First with +2 Gareth Lovell, second Mike Watkins -1, Lee Bartlett also with -1 was third. In fourth place with -2 Graham Dennis, fifth Chris Gawman -3.

There was very closing scoring in the men’s Foster Ferris Trophy but first with 44pts and winners of the Trophy were Gareth George and Alan George, closely followed by Dave Turnbull and Martyn Moon with 43pts.

Mark Cottingham and Paul Lillicrap were fourth with 42pts, fourth Martin Channon and Jas Singh 41pts and in fifth place Jim Grant and Alan Doidge with 40pts, on count back from three pairs.

There were 39 entries for the ladies’ monthly Stableford which was played in conjunction with the Caddies Trophy.

The Trophy is limited to those ladies who had caddied for players in this year’s county matches – a much desired Trophy!

First in division one with 38pts was Fran Horton who was this year’s Trophy winner. Second in the division was Fiona Lovell with 36pts, and third Dawn Dennis 35pts.

Nicky Ormond was first in division two with 37pts, second Margaret Smith 34pts on countback from Jenny Kay.

With 31pts, Jennie Roe was first in division three, second Jackie Sealey 29pts on count back from Sheila Scott.

There was ideal golfing weather for the start of the ladies’ medal but it was too good to last and later down came heavy rain!

First in division one with a nett 73 was Donna Cann, second Marian Stenhouse nett 76 and third with a net 77 was Kayleigh Cann, on countback from Lis Collier.

Jackie Sealey scored an excellent nett 72 in division two, second Carolyn Crawford nett 75 and third Anne Dawson nett 79.

A popular event in the Men Vets fixtures is the Barrie Burn Trophy where the winner is the best player with a total score for best 15 holes out of the 18.

This year’s winner with the excellent score of 38pts was Chris Morley. Also in the Men Vets fixtures is the annual Captain vs Secretary.

This year 32 players played eight matches in the 4BBB. The secretary’s team have enjoyed a long run in successive years but not this year – the captain’s team had a resounding victory by 7pts to 1pt.
